Independence Day 2019
Updated: Jun 30, 2019
If you’re planning a holiday trip to Savannah for Independence Day 2019, there will be lots going on! Here are our favorite event options in an around the historic district…
PubCrawl: Nothing says "freedom from tyranny" like good ole bar hoppin'! Get your celebration started early with the Red, White, and Brews Bar Crawl on June 29. This is an Independence Day themed bar crawl through downtown Savannah. Early bird tickets are $15 and available through the event’s Facebook page at the link above.
Baseball: Not many things are as American as baseball, and you can catch the Savannah Bananas for home games on July 3rd and 5th. The crack of the bat and cold beer are enough for most fans, but the Bananas have a way of making the game even more fun for fans. Kilts optional.
Fireworks: No Independence Day celebration would be complete without fireworks. The annual River Street Fourth of July Festival & Fireworks Extravaganza kicks off at 4pm, with fireworks around 9:30pm. Rousakis Plaza will be filled with regional arts & crafts exhibitors, local entertainment, and fun for the entire family
Refuel: With the all-day fun in downtown Savannah, you'll want a pit stop. The beer garden at Moon River Brewing is a great place to take a break and is right in the center of downtown. Some of our other favorite outdoor bars are Peregrin and Rocks on the Roof, and Top Deck. The last two have great river views where you can watch the River Festival from a more comfortable perspective.
Cruise: If you want a front row seat for the fireworks, but don’t want to face the crowds, Savannah Riverboat Cruises has you covered with two cruise options: Both include a front row seat for the fireworks, but one offers a dinner buffet on board as well.
Music: This event isn't downtown, but is too good to not mention. If you’re up for a drive, Lady Antebellum and special guest Caroline Jones will be paying tribute to the troops live at Donovan Field July 4th on Fort Stewart (approx. 1 hour from downtown Savannah). This concert is FREE & open to the public and will close with a booming fireworks show brought to you by Fort Stewart.
Wherever you are, have a happy 4th and LET FREEDOM RING!
