The Olde Pink House

The Olde Pink House is a Savannah institution, frequented by locals and tourists alike. What makes the experience so special? The ambiance, the food, and the feeling of being pampered (elegant colonial mansion + delicious southern cuisine + gorgeous location = my jam).

Our visit was a spur of the moment decision, so we had to try our luck without a reservation. We did manage to snag a table after a 30 min wait. This was rather lucky and we don’t recommend following our example – make your reservation at least a week in advance.

The grand old lady could not be better situated on the corner of Abercorn and Bryan Streets, so after putting our name on the list, we waited across the street in lovely Reynolds Square. It was a perfect summer night, and time flew by. Before I could go check in with the hostess, the manager came across the street to find us to tell us our table was ready. How nice!

Once seated, the great service continued. Our server was attentive, but not overbearing. The food came out in a timely fashion, but we were never rushed.

The Olde Pink House is particularly known for its seafood, so we shared a bottle of Albariño. This paired so nicely with the Mr.’s crab cakes and shrimp cocktail, and my butternut squash ravioli. The Mr. is a snob about crab cakes (being originally from Maryland), but these got his approval. He also commented on the freshness of his shrimp, and I did not leave behind one morsel of my sumptuous pasta. Next time we are going to hit the raw bar.

We also really enjoyed the vibe – elegant and a little fancy but without feeling stuffy. This isn’t just a restaurant for romantic dates; we saw more than one bachelorette party! This is the place to have a celebration dinner, even if you’re just celebrating how happy you are to be in Savannah.

Insider Tip: This is the kind of place it’s fun to get dressed up for, but you will also feel at ease in whatever you packed in your carry-on. If you prefer a more casual setting or can’t stand to miss a down of the game, the same menu is available in the bar area.
